Brewster Brothers are an established West Lothian based, family run business with a rich history. From humble farming beginnings, to investing in new markets then pivoting into and becoming leaders in the circular waste economy.
2007 to 2017 saw the company’s focus shift to the restoration of a redundant quarry at Ratho. It was during this projects regeneration that the company noticed their next business opportunity. During the project, Alex & Scott saw a huge volume of materials go to waste and decided something had to be done about the traditional approach to resource management, this was the catalyst for Brewster Brothers journey into the circular approach to waste management and recycled aggregates.
Since the business started Brewster Brothers have earned recognition from Guinness World Records in barley crops to outstanding achievement in sustainable business practices at The VIBES awards. The company has seen substantial growth since its inception in 1954 and has saved almost 1 million tonnes of construction, demolition and excavation waste from landfill in the last 3 years.
This business growth has been backed by support from West Lothian Council with help implementing integrated management systems, working with our partners Scottish Enterprise to support marketing and Expert Help on the 90 Day RACE program.
West Lothian College have delivered 1 and 3 day First Aid training courses, IOSH Health & Safety, IOSH Managing Health & Safety and will also deliver training for 11 members of staff focused on Microsoft Excel. This will be funded through their Flexible Workforce Development Grant.
Most recently, Brewster Brothers received a grant from West Lothian Council to cover 50% of the costs of a life cycle assessment they performed on their products, which fed into the application for an Environmental Product Declaration. Watch the video below to learn more:
