Job Title: Laboratory Technician (2 posts) (Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences)

Hours / Days Of Work: 1 FTE & 0.75 FTE (term time), Fully On-site. Due to the nature of this role, it is based fully on-site.

Job Type: Full-Time

Salary: £26,093 - £27,319 (based on 1 FTE)

Job Description:
The post holder will support Institute teaching activities, working as part of a technical team. Duties will include general maintenance and setting up of equipment, preparing chemical and biological solutions, tissue dissection and assisting students in locating materials or equipment that they may require during classes. They will have the ability to exchange factual information and work within set timescales. The majority of work will be planned a day or two in advance by the line manager or senior technician.

Experience and Qualifications:
Educational and/or Professional Qualifications (E=Essential, i.e. a candidate must meet all essential criteria to be considered for selection, D=Desirable) E1 Science based education to HNC, Modern Apprenticeship or equivalent level. Experience E2 Knowledge and experience of science based general laboratory environment. Job Related Skills and Achievements E3 Experience of Microbiological techniques. D1 Experience of basic Analytical Chemistry. E4 Knowledge and evidence of an understanding of Health and Safety regulations and procedures. E5 IT proficiency on computer packages, stand-alone and networked systems. E6 Ability to exchange factual information, verbally and in writing. D2 Tissue dissection ability Personal Attributes E7 Hard working and enthusiastic. E8 Ability to work and communicate as part of a team. E9 Evidence of the ability to prioritise own defined work activities within established routines or procedures. E10 Consistent, accurate and concise completion of allocated tasks. E11 A willingness to adopt a flexible approach to tasks where priorities may change at short notice. E12 Willingness to learn new skills.
